Lore

Morvain is quite the peculiar being, having been on this earth for over 250 million years. Having gone through every situation possible here. Stuck for eternity, cursed and blessed with the life of the infinite. Immortal. However, this is not how Morvain’s life started. While yes, he is a vampire, he was born as an elf in a small village in the early Triassic, not knowing anything about the world. Knowing as little as the village. Fire exists, they know how to gather food and hunt for it. However, there was little meat, mostly reptiles, as the first dinosaurs started developing around Morvain’s 25th year of life. The small ones they could hunt, but they still needed to be extremely careful around the bigger creatures. Since most of the village was older, Morvain always went with them. But this one trip was different. Morvain heard groans and screams of pain, and he decided to investigate, curiosity piqued. What, or who, might be making those noises? As Morvain explored, he came across an injured woman. The groans grew louder until he finally found the location. But when he peeked around the corner, the woman snapped to look at him in full rage. Eyes red like blood, and... are those fangs?Morvain might be in trouble here. She seemed to be in quite a feral state, even though Morvain was crouched and calm, he had never seen anything like this before. Intrigued, he slowly walked up to her, calling out “no harm” softly as he got closer, within her reach. But before he knew it, the woman was on him. She pinched his neck hard, groaning in pain. Slowly, she began to faint, and Morvain’s vision became blurrier by the second. The last image he saw before fainting was the lady sitting back, her mouth covered in blood. The next time Morvain opened his eyes, he was awakened by the rest of the villagers, who were worried about him and had been searching for him for a while. They saw blood and rambled on in panic. However, Morvain felt fine. He remembered the pain, the blood, and the panicked, feral woman. But she was nowhere to be found, just a pool of blood. It was like he could smell everything. He even tasted something metallic in his mouth. But he felt fine! Better than before even. He got up and walked out into the night with his group, finally getting home and being checked over by every elder in the village to make sure he was okay. The next day, as he got out of his house, feeling refreshed and healthier than ever, happy to meet the sun, he suddenly became extremely uncomfortable with it. Tired, exhausted, as if he were allergic to the sun. He decided to just live with it until he realized slowly over the weeks that it wasn’t just an allergy and there might be more at hand, as he felt sicker and sicker.Hungering for more, for something human?Over the years, Morvain realized that he was no longer human. He needed to feed off of blood in order to survive. Thankfully, he figured out that it didn’t take much blood to survive, especially with the villagers. If he bit them, they never realized who it was or that it had happened.Over many decades, mammals evolved, making it easier for him to survive. When dinosaurs evolved, Morvain realized he could telepathically communicate with creatures and humans alike. He became friends with the herbivores, who of course protected him from the carnivores. He learned he could fly himself and flew with the flying reptiles, sometimes even traveling on their backs.Swimming with the marine reptiles, exploring the ocean as well, over time he learned that the sun just made him more tired, but he recovered quite fast. He preferred to stay inside during the brighter periods, in caves. Sometimes he explored other ones, but eventually, he found one of his favorites to stay in. The only issue was that he almost got kicked out by the cave bear that lived there. After offering a lot of food and fruits from high-hanging trees for the bear, they slowly became friends. They would tease the tiny dinosaurs together, messing with them until their moms arrived, and they would run back to their cave for protection.Over time, Morvain became nervous. He didn’t want to lose his friend. He wanted Koda around for longer. After talking to Koda, they both agreed to become vampiric best friends. Morvain had never tried to make someone a vampire before. He once met the lady who bit him, and she explained that it’s a thought process. Morvain had bitten people, but they never changed.
Morvain tried and tried until they noticed the symptoms starting to appear in Koda as well. It took a few painful attempts, but eventually, they managed to get Koda to adjust to this life.Over many more decades, Morvain and Koda explored the world, a bear smarter than most humans. The two of them learned more about their powers. Koda discovered he could transform into different animals when necessary. However, he preferred to stay as a bear. Now in the modern world, Koda uses his powers to travel the streets as a cat, to avoid raising any questions. The two of them live together as best friends, for eternity.Of course, staying in one place hasn’t been in their plans. They wanted to travel the world again, to learn more before settling in one spot. They traveled to South America, Europe, and Asia. When they spent time in Singapore, they loved running around and seeing all the gorgeous creatures there. Until they found themselves watching groups of otters swimming and playing in nature.Koda loved to turn into one to enjoy some free swimming time with the group. Morvain would leave Koda there while he hung out with some vampires he had met. They taught him tricks and helped him with things he struggled with. It was also here that Morvain learned that shapeshifting was another ability vampires gained. After decades of experience as a vampire, he never figured out how to do it. Koda knew instantly, but maybe it was different for undead animals. After months of learning from the vampires and Koda spending time with the otters, they found some steadiness for the time being. One day, Koda and Morvain met up after a fun day. Koda was being followed by the cutest little otter. But the otter didn’t look quite like the others. It looked like an otter dressed like a panda. Morvain looked behind him after hearing the softest little chirps, as if the otter was trying to get their attention. Koda changed back into an otter, and Morvain knelt down in front of the little creature. As he knelt, the little otter crawled into his arms, chirping even softer and cuddling up to him. Koda seemed to understand her and mentioned that she wanted to come with them. She was bullied by her group because she didn’t look like everyone else.Morvain and Koda fell in love with the little ball of fur who seemed to want to belong somewhere, just like they did. Over time, they learned her name was Cindy, and she loved to cuddle and swim in their bathtub during work hours.Once Cindy had settled in and became comfortable, just like Koda did, Morvain became a world-renowned Paleontologist, known for his deep knowledge of the creatures that lived so many decades ago. The world learned so much about the past because of Morvain, and it was truly amazing.
